Various people have different opinions on whether coffee is good or bad for health.

You might have heard that coffee can cause various health issues but that was an outcome of earlier research. The recent researchers have shown that coffee has more health benefits as compared to the harmful effects. Earlier researches suggested that coffee is linked to various heart diseases as well as asthma but lately it was observed that some of the persons who participated in the study had the habit of smoking cigarettes and the various health issues which were attributed to the consumption of coffee would have been the outcome of smoking tobacco. Recent studies have shown that coffee is rich in various antioxidants which have various health benefits and are most important for neutralising the free radicals of our body thus reducing the risk of various diseases including cancer which may be the result of oxidative stress. Berries contain more antioxidants than coffee but people consume less berries as compared to coffee hence coffee becomes one of the greatest sources of antioxidants. Drinking coffee can reduce the risk of type two diabetes, various liver diseases, heart diseases and strokes. People drinking coffee regularly showed lower risk of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. It is observed that the persons who drink coffee have a larger life span as compared to those who don't drink. It is also known to boost the brain function for shorter duration as it blocks a brain hormone adenosine and releases other neurotransmitters such as dopamine which helps to relieve tiredness hence increasing the activity of the brain. It was also observed that the persons who drink coffee are less likely to go into depression which is a mental disorder.  However coffee also has some negative effects which cannot be ignored. Coffee contains caffeine which is a diuretic and can lead to frequent urination if consumed more. Over consumption of coffee can lead to anxiety and can also affect sleep quality if consumed before going to bed. Hans it is advised not to drink coffee before bedtime. It can also lead to increased acid production in the stomach leading to problems of gastritis.

Vitamins and antioxidants are very important for the overall health of our body. We often forget to include these in our diet.

It would be very helpful for us if we get all these in a single cup of coffee. We could add a few things in our coffee to boost it with vitamins and antioxidants. Some of them are described below–

  • Heart is a very important organ of our body and we can protect it by adding cinnamon to our coffee. Cinnamon boosts our immune system and is loaded with antioxidants and lowers the risk of cancer and heart diseases. Just add half a teaspoon of cinnamon to your coffee and drink daily for a healthy heart. Ceylon cinnamon is more beneficial as compared to cassia cinnamon but is a little expensive and harder to find.
  • You can add Ginger to your coffee because it has many benefits such as aiding in digestion, lowering cholesterol and relieving muscle pain as it contains anti-inflammatory compounds and various antioxidants.
  • You may find it weird but adding mushrooms to your coffee can help you in many ways as mushrooms have antiviral properties, prevent various liver diseases, aid in digestion. They are loaded with antioxidants and also boost our immune system tremendously.
  •  We all know the various benefits of turmeric. It has anti-inflammatory properties and is loaded with various antioxidants and helps to detoxify the liver and proper digestion and treatment of depression.
  • You can add cacao powder to your coffee to increase its taste and also the iron content as it is rich in iron. I
  • Adding maca to the coffee also has several benefits. It provides almost all the essential amino acids and is a source of 20 amino acids and Vitamin B6. It helps in improving fertility in men and relieving symptoms of menopause in women.
